  BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE

On July 27, 1953, an armistice agreement was signed to cease fire in the Korean War and establish a de facto military demarcation line along the 38th parallel, which resulted in the complete division of a once united nation. A war buffer zone was created along this demarcation line, a strip of land known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The DMZ has always been a topic of interest among travelers to Korea for its historical significance, the Korean War aftermath that still affects the two countries even to this day. Although the DMZ is a heavily military-controlled border area, certain regions around the DMZ are made accessible to civilians as a way to remember the sacrifice and loss from the Korean War, appreciate the nature reserve left untouched for decades, and hope for a peaceful reunification. If you’re interested in visiting the DMZ yourself, read on to see answers to the most frequently asked DMZ-related questions.

Imjingak is a unification and security tour complex comprised of Imjingak Pavilion, North Korea Center, Unification Park, and several monuments and memorial sites. Pyeonghwa Nuri Park hosts many events, performances, and exhibitions to promote peace and reunification. The most popular attractions within the park are Hill of Music, a large grassy slope, and Pinwheel Park, featuring over 3,000 colorful pinwheels spinning freely in the wind.
3
The Unification Bridge (ID Check)
* Please bring your passport.
4
DMZ Theater & Exhibition Hall

The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel
The 3rd Tunnel is the third of its kind built by North Korea for the purpose of invading South Korea. It was discovered in 1978. Among the four tunnels located so far, it is closest to Seoul (about 52 km). It has a total length of 1.6 km and a width of 2 m. It is estimated that nearly 30,000 personnel can move through the tunnel every hour. Visitors to the 3rd Tunnel must reserve the tour in advance. The tour starts from the Imjingak Pavilion. All visitors are required to bring their identification, such as passports or Alien Registration Card (ARC).
6
Dora Observatory
Dora Observatory is the closest DMZ observatory to Panmunjeom. From Dora Observatory, one can see not only the Panmunjeom but also the village of Daeseong-dong within the DMZ, mountains and farmlands on the North Korean side, and the city of Gaeseong, a North Korean city and the historic capital of Goryeo (918-1392). Individual visits are not allowed. The observatory can only be accessed through the DMZ Peace Tour, which embarks from Imjingak Pavilion after reservation. All visitors are required to bring their identification, such as passports or Alien Registration Card (ARC).
7
Red Bridge (Gamaksan Mt. Suspension Bridge)
Gamaksan is one of five great mountains of the Gyeonggi region, and according to legend, its name means a dark blue-colored rocky mountain whose rocks emanated black and blue lights at the same time. The suspension bridge located at the starting point of the Gamaksan Trail connects Seolmari Valley, which had been severed by a road, to make Gamaksan into a single mountain again. It is 150 meters long, which makes it the nation's longest bridge tower-less suspension bridge, and was constructed to form harmony with nature.

Review for : Best DMZ and Red Suspension Bridge
I have visited Korea several times,  but it was my first time in the DMZ area. This tour was a meaningful learning experience.We had a wonderful and interesting tour despite of the cold weather. Our travel guide, Sue was very friendly, communicative and told us a lot about the history of Korea and current situation between two countries.She also helped take photos and gave great recommendations for products only available in the area.
