  BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE

On July 27, 1953, an armistice agreement was signed to cease fire in the Korean War and establish a de facto military demarcation line along the 38th parallel, which resulted in the complete division of a once united nation. A war buffer zone was created along this demarcation line, a strip of land known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The DMZ has always been a topic of interest among travelers to Korea for its historical significance, the Korean War aftermath that still affects the two countries even to this day. Although the DMZ is a heavily military-controlled border area, certain regions around the DMZ are made accessible to civilians as a way to remember the sacrifice and loss from the Korean War, appreciate the nature reserve left untouched for decades, and hope for a peaceful reunification. If you’re interested in visiting the DMZ yourself, read on to see answers to the most frequently asked DMZ-related questions.

Heavy History, Excellent Guide
Review for : DMZ and 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Tour
Visiting the DMZ was surreal. Mimi walked us through every site with care, balancing facts and emotions perfectly. The observatory view and tunnel were fascinating. I just wish we had a little more time at each stop, but still, this tour gave me a whole new appreciation for Korea’s history.

Educational & Meaningful
Review for : DMZ and 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Tour
This tour was both educational and moving. Eunice was fantastic—she answered all our questions and gave thoughtful insights throughout the day. It’s not your typical fun tour, but one that gives you a deeper understanding of Korea’s past and present. Definitely worth doing if you're visiting Seoul.

Eye-Opening and Well-Guided
Review for : DMZ and 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Tour
This DMZ tour was more than sightseeing—it was an emotional and powerful experience. Jung, our guide, explained the history and current situation so clearly, and she made a heavy topic easy to understand. Visiting places like the 3rd Tunnel and the observatory made everything feel very real. Highly recommend this if you want to understand Korea beyond just the surface.

Powerful & Eye-Opening Experience
Review for : DMZ and 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Tour
This DMZ tour was unforgettable. Seeing the tension and history up close really puts things into perspective. Our guide, Mimi, was super knowledgeable and explained everything in a way that was easy to follow, even for someone who didn’t know much about Korean history.Walking through the sites, especially the observatory and the 3rd tunnel, was surreal. Only downside was that some areas were a bit crowded, but overall, it was an eye-opening and meaningful experience I’d totally recommend.
