Jogyesa (Temple)
As the main temple as well as the district head temple of the Jogye order in Seoul, Jogyesa Temple is the center of Korean Buddhism. The temple was built in the late 14th century during the Goryeo period but was completely destroyed in a fire. It was rebuilt under the name of Gakwangsa Temple in 1910 with the effort of many respectful monks, namely Han Yong-un and Lee Hee-gwang. The temple was given a role as the head temple of Korea’s Buddhism and renamed to Tegosa Temple in 1936. In 1954, a purification drive took place to eliminate Japanese influence and revive traditional Buddhism, which established the present day Jogyesa Temple as a result.

The Royal Guard Changing Ceremony
In the Joseon dynasty, the royal guards of the palace were gatekeepers who were responsible for guarding the the main gates of Gyeongbokgung Palace as well as the main gates of the city such as Heunginjimun Gate and Sungnyemun Gate. The royal guards worked in shift duties and were in charge of opening and closing Gwanghwamun Gate. Before the royal guard system was enforced in 1469, the palace gates were protected by soldiers of the central army. The Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony held at Gyeongbokgung Palace and the Gwanghwamun area reenacts the guard-changing procedure that took place during the Joseon dynasty, along with the reproduction of costumes and weapons, based on historical records.

Gyeongbok Palace (Deoksu Palace on Tue)
Gyeongbokgung Palace was built in 1395 as the official palace of the Joseon dynasty by Yi Seong-gye, the future King Taejo and founder of the new regime. Gyeongbokgung Palace is commonly referred to as the Northern Palace because of its location to the north, comparied to Changdeokgung Palace in the east and Gyeonghuigung Palace in the west. Gyeongbokgung Palace is arguably the most beautiful and is the largest of all five palaces. Many Joseon kings were crowned here. The premises were once destroyed by fire during the Imjin War (1592-1598). However, all of the palace buildings were later restored under the leadership of Heungseondaewongun during the reign of King Gojong. The assassination of Empress Myeongseong, however, resulted in Gyeongbokgung Palace losing its function as a royal palace, eventually witnessing the downfall of the Joseon dynasty. Gyeongbokgung Palace retains the original Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, a prime example of Joseon architecture, and the Hyangwonjeong Pavilion and pond.
6
The National Folk Museum
Located inside Gyeongbokgung Palace, the National Folk Museum of Korea presents historical artifacts that were used in the daily lives of Korean people in the past. Through the displays, visitors can learn about the domestic and agricultural lifestyles, as well as Korea’s cultural beliefs.
The National Folk Museum of Korea has three permanent exhibitions and two special exhibitions as well as a library, souvenir shop, and other subsidiary facilities.
7
Pass by the Prior Presidential Residence (The Blue House)
The signature markings of the Presidential Residence of Cheong Wa Dae are its blue tiles on the Main Office; it is the first thing to catch one's attention upon viewing the premises. Approximately 150 thousand tiles compose the roof of the Main Office. Each tile was baked individually to make them strong enough to last for hundreds of years. The blue tiles and the smoothly curving roofline blend beautifully with Bugaksan Mountain in the backdrop.

A Peaceful Journey Into Korea’s Past
Review for : [Small Group Tour] Royal Palace Tour
Exploring the palace was hands down one of the most memorable parts of my trip to Seoul. The moment we walked through the main gate, I felt like I had stepped into a different world calmer, slower, and full of quiet beauty. Our guide, Mimi, was absolutely wonderful. She had the perfect balance of deep historical knowledge and warm, friendly energy. She didn’t just list facts she told stories. Stories about kings and queens, court life, secret gardens, and architectural details I never would’ve noticed on my own. She made Korean history feel alive. We wore hanbok, and that made everything feel even more immersive. Mimi helped us take photos at the best spots, and even showed us some hidden corners of the palace grounds that weren’t crowded. Walking through the wide courtyards in traditional clothing, with the mountains in the background, was just magical. One of my favorite moments was watching the changing of the guard ceremony. Mimi explained the significance and symbolism behind every detail the colors, the instruments, the uniforms so when the ceremony started, it wasn’t just a performance, it had real meaning. What I appreciated most was how peaceful the whole experience felt. Despite being a tourist spot, it wasn’t rushed. Mimi gave us time to just enjoy the surroundings, take in the atmosphere, and imagine what life might’ve been like centuries ago.If you want to do something in Seoul that’s not just about sightseeing, but about really connecting with Korean culture and history, this is it.

Beautiful Spot for Photos & Culture
Review for : [Small Group Tour] Royal Palace Tour
This place is a must-see, and our guide Eunice made it even better. She had a great sense of humor and knew all the good spots for photos. Even if you’re not into history, it’s easy to appreciate the atmosphere here.

Unexpectedly Relaxing
Review for : [Small Group Tour] Royal Palace Tour
Didn’t expect to enjoy this much, but it turned out to be one of my favorite spots in Seoul. The open courtyards, old wooden buildings, and mountain views were so peaceful. Great place to just slow down and take it all in.

Wearing Hanbok Made It Magical
Review for : [Small Group Tour] Royal Palace Tour
I rented a hanbok nearby and explored the palace in full traditional style. It felt so special, and I got tons of amazing photos. The staff at the gate even bowed when I walked in—it felt like I went back in time!
